Debbie Shuter’s short film ‘Beigels Already’ was shot at Brick Lane Beigel Bakery in 1992. Watch out for appearances by some familiar local characters, including Mr Sammy looking youthful and sassy.

Now I want a whole plate of smoked salmon with cream cheese and salt beef with mustard beigals!
I would be in there every day if I lived in the area.
This took me right back in time……. a regular haunt after a good Saturday night out with friends.
Brilliant beigels, brilliant banter and my dad was always pleased that the Sunday paper was on the kitchen table when he got up…thanks to me rolling home in the small hours of the morning. Happy days.

London.When I’m in the area always try and visit. However really sad to hear the news of the family death a yr or two ago.
I have never had dinner at Claridges but like that lady I would prefer a salt beef beigel. Smoked salmon and cream cheese – not so much!
It’s interesting to hear how the accents from less than 30 years ago have changed. People don’t speak like that any more.
Does anybody remember the tiny backstreet/upstairs Indian “restaurants” in the area? Not unduly concerned with any food safety regulations or licensing laws but totally authentic.

So wonderful to hear people talking about their delight in these bagels, and to see the fabulous team producing them. Such a great community gathering place.

What a wonderful piece of social history. Loved it. It’s been many years since I visited Brick Lane, but did a case study on it – and the London Docklands – when I did my degree, so a place close to my heart – and helped me get my BA Hons.
last visited about 5 years ago, great portion sizes still, shame about the rpices, IIRC nearly 4 1/2 quid for a salt beef with mustard!!! Chola still good, as was the apple danishes. An institution, rightly so, but not cheap any more…
